Silversmiths Guild Tutors
Our tutors are experienced makers who enjoy sharing what they know. They bring a wide range of skills and approaches, and work alongside students to build confidence, develop technique, and support each person’s own way of making.

Debbie Vuleta
Foundations Tutor
Kia Ora, when I’m not working full time as a office worker for a Government Department you will find me tutoring the Foundations class on a Tuesday evening, doing accounts and or replying to emails. I also needed a creative outlet, so in 2013 I took a Beginners course with the Silversmiths and quickly became hooked. Most weekends you will find me in my workshop (Garage) in Leeston, Canterbury, where I work on my small business Wiredlove Jewellery.

Kathryn Chalmers
Core Tutor
Hi, I have always loved silver jewellery and wanted to learn how to make my own. I was so excited to discover the Silversmith Guild of Canterbury had classes and completed levels 1 & 2 (Foundation and Core) and became a member of the guild. Working alongside other members inspired me to further develop my silversmithing skills. I love using mixed metals and texture in my designs. I live in Lyttelton and find my inspiration from the landscape that surrounds me. I hope to share my knowledge and pass on my passion for making jewellery to inspire you to make beautiful pieces to wear with pride.

Cora Baillie
Advanced Tutor
Cora makes jewellery using silver, semi-precious gems and tools and metal-working techniques that haven’t changed much since the Middle Ages. She is constantly experimenting and refining her knowledge and techniques with in-person courses in UK, Italy and Germany, and online. This knowledge is passed on to students taking the same courses with the Silversmiths’ Guild that started Cora’s silversmithing journey over 25 years ago. Cora is a member of Arts Canterbury and her jewellery is available from Form Gallery, Christchurch, Captains Quarter Gallery, Akaroa, and online on Felt.co.nz

Carolyn Brewer
Foundations/Core Tutor
Carolyn’s silversmithing began in Canberra with jeweller, Antony Bezos in the 2010s. After moving back to Ōtautahi Christchurch in 2016, the Silversmiths’ Guild became the perfect place for her to continue experimenting with various metals and eventually tutoring in the Foundation, Core and occasionally Advanced courses. Carolyn’s teaching philosophy involves working with students to build their techniques, strengths and confidence while having fun.
