Torch Enamel Workshop

A torch enameling workshop, led by Maria Will was held at the Guild’s studio on Saturday 16 May 2026. Nine members attended what turned out to be an exceptional learning experience and a fun event.

As requested, everybody brought along pieces of shaped copper with holes drilled for findings, and sandpaper was provided to clean these up ready for enameling. Most started small, determined to create beautiful pairs of earrings, but others had more adventurous projects in mind.

Maria lay out enameling stations according to colour to prevent contamination – a strategy that was only partially successful. In their earnestness to create beautiful things, some members wanted to experiment with more than one colour at a time and didn’t realize the importance of keeping the contents of each bottle of colour separate.

Disaster was averted, however, and many beautiful items were completed. Everybody went home exclaiming what a fabulous day it had been. A huge thank you goes to Maria whose passion for adding vibrant colour to metal and her skill in demonstrating how she goes about it enthused us all.
